1979 Algorithmic Oscillator (AO)
Firmware Update 2024-04-02

The latest firmware can be found at https://1979.ws/ao#download

1) Open the enclosed WAV file on your computer. Do not use software that applies EQ or compression as this will cause the update to fail.

2) Patch a known good 3.5mm cable from your computer's headphone jack to the FM audio input of the AO. Unpatch all other inputs.

3) Press the ALGO switch and then power on your Buchla system. You'll see an animated pattern on the LEDs indicating that the module is waiting for an update.

4) Set the volume of your computer to the max, then play back the WAV file in its entirety. The animated pattern will change once the firmware update begins.

5) If an error occurs, the LEDs on the AO will blink red. Stop playback of the WAV file. Reduce the output volume of your computer slightly and start over by pressing the ALGO switch. Restart playback of the WAV file from the beginning.

6) Once the update is completed, the module will return to its normal state and it's ready to use. Press and hold the ALGO switch to cycle through the green, yellow, and red banks of algorithms (the yellow bank adds 8 new algorithms compared to the original firmware).
