1979 Stochastic Voltage Generator (SVG)
Firmware Update 2024-04-02

The latest firmware can be found at https://1979.ws/svg#download

1) Open the enclosed WAV file on your computer. Do not use software that applies EQ or compression as this will cause the update to fail.

2) Plug a known good 3.5mm cable into your computer's headphone jack. To update the SVG you need to split the signal and ground from the 3.5mm cable into separate banana jack connections. This can be accomplished with cable converters, alligator clips, format jumblers, or other methods. The important thing is that the sleeve of the 3.5mm cable should be connected to the banana ground jack of your Buchla system and the tip of the 3.5mm cable should be connected to the gray Rate jack on the SVG. Unpatch all other inputs on the SVG.

3) Press the T switch in the Recall section of the SVG and then power on your Buchla system. The T and X Recall switches will show an alternating pattern to indicate that the module is waiting for an update.

4) Set the volume of your computer to the max, then play back the WAV file in its entirety. On the SVG, the T and X Recall LEDs will alternate more quickly and the four mode switches will show an illuminated animation to indicate that the firmware update is being received.

5) If an error occurs, the T and X Recall switches will turn off and the four mode switches will blink red. Stop playback of the WAV file. Reduce the output volume of your computer and start over by pressing the T Recall switch. Restart playback of the WAV file from the beginning.

6) Once the update is completed, the module will return to its normal state and it's ready to use.
